Heart of Glass - Celebration, Release Day and Giveaway

Good morning, lovely readers!

Welcome to my revamped blog *strokes the pretty*. I'm so thrilled by how wonderful it looks. Thank you to Jessica from Finger Lakes Flash for all your hard work on making it look so fantastic.

It's been 5 long years to the day (how serendipitous) since my first published novelette, Heart of Glass was released as part of the Second Chances Anthology back in 2012.

There's a story behind how this little tale came about, the character of Heath inspired by two men I crossed paths with on a regular basis some years ago. Two men whose lives were a day to day struggle. Two men I'll never forget.

Now it's been given new life, been reedited and has a gorgeous new cover thanks to Jessica at Finger Lakes Flash, and I am so proud and excited to bring it to you once more.

Thank you for my wonderful beta readers Susan Reeves and Kaye P. Hallows. Without your support, this story wouldn't be what it is today.

Days after arriving in Australia for a working holiday, Zack Doherty is blindsided by the connection he instantly feels to Heath Connors.  Zack is uncharacteristically forward in pushing Heath to accept a date.

Heath has only recently had the courage to admit his true self, walking away from his marriage and a good job when he could no longer lie to himself. The attraction he feels for a stranger that fleetingly crossed his path confirms he made the right choice. Will Zack be the one to mend Heath’s heart of glass?

I headed for the bathroom, smiling at the thought of the man who had captivated my interest. But once I opened the door, the most beautiful voice I’d ever heard echoing through the room, my head snapped toward the sweet, melodic sound. There, standing at the sink, humming to himself as he washed his hands, was the man who’d been on my mind non-stop for the past twenty-four hours. Dressed in a white T-shirt and worn, pale blue jeans which hugged his ass in all the right places, he looked scrumptious. Gaze trailing upward, I noted his sun-kissed hair was thick and long, just as I’d pictured, but this time it was smoothed back into a ponytail. As I drew closer, I noticed he smelled of soap, so fresh and clean, and couldn’t hold back my moan. That was when he glanced up, baby blues widening as he caught my reflection in the mirror.

“Well, hello again.” My voice may have sounded calm, sexy even, but in truth I was jumping out of my skin, heart about ready to burst as he turned to face me.

“Oh. Hi.” He dried his hands and tossed the used paper towel into the trash, then scratched his chin and stared all over the place. His obvious shyness was so damn cute, but as he pushed past me and headed for the door, I began to panic. I didn’t want him to go, but it was clear I was making him uncomfortable.

Before my head could catch up with my body’s actions, I’d grabbed him by the arm and whirled him around, then used my free hand to slam the door shut.
“Wh-what are you doing?” His tone was surprised rather than angry, and I hoped that was a good sign.

     “Don’t go.”

“Settle down, little one. No one is going to hurt you here.”
His gaze darted to the hallway Chris had disappeared down, and he let out a low rumble.
I smiled and answered his silent question. “Not even him. He will come around.” After he’d got over having a werewolf in the house and came to terms with the idea that werewolves were real, that was.
“Trust me. Now settle down.” Though keeping my tone calm, I put as much force as I could muster behind the words.
I wasn’t a shifter, and the animal had no reason to obey me. But power was power, no matter where it came from, and I was praying it would be enough. Otherwise, I was screwed.
The wolf growled, shifting his center of gravity lower down his back as he prepared to jump.
I was familiar enough with werewolves to know they reacted to strength and dominance, so I tried again, putting more of that behind my words. “Enough!”
The growl subsided without dying completely, and the eyes holding mine became more alert, the anxiety in them half-replaced by curiosity.
“That’s it. Settle down.”
The wolf whimpered and crouched until his belly rested on the floor. He regarded me carefully, his upper lip still curled in a threat. He didn’t trust me. Not yet. The feeling was mutual.
I wasn’t his alpha, nor did I want to be, but I needed him calm and obedient. My heart, which beat loudly when I first faced the animal, had lowered to a more normal rhythm. Sweat soaked through my T-shirt, and I was willing to bet money the wolf could smell the fear on me. I held his gaze, bringing up even more power.
Calm down, damn it!
The wait stretched on; a nerve wrecking staring contest. I didn’t move, barely breathing. Slowly, the wolf’s body went slack, the lip uncurling. The pupils shrank back to normal size, for a wolf anyway, but some of the angst remained.
“That’s it. Good boy.”
One of his ears flicked, head tilting to the side.
“I need to check how bad you’re hurt.”
The wolf tried to crawl farther back, clearly not happy with my suggestion.
“No, I mean it. You’re hurt. I need to see what is going on.”
The growl was back in his throat.
“Enough!” I used power to put strength behind the command. “Shift!”
His eyes widened, but the force behind the words could not be ignored. He tried to fight me, I could see it on his face, but I kept my gaze and the stream of power steady, waiting for him to submit.
Eventually, the tension left his body and he stretched out on the floor. The pupils changed slightly, their color softening to a warm brown. The fur rippled as the muscles beneath rearranged themselves. The shoulders widened, the neck thickened, and the muzzle retracted.

About the Author

Born in Romania, land of the Iele and Vlad the Impaler, AIMEE BRISSAY has spent all her life surrounded by stories. She has ridden side by side with d’Artagnan and The Three Musketeers to retrieve the Queen’s diamonds, set sail on the Erasmus in search of the Japans, fell in love with Rhett Butler and roamed the Wild West alongside Old Shatterhand. She has walked in the footsteps of the Olympian Gods and searched for Zalmoxis’ sanctuary in the Carpathians. In her mind, she’s never been the damsel in distress but rather the knight in shiny armor fighting for a cause. Aimee Brissay loves each and every one of these characters with a passion, and has always had a soft spot for the men-on-men fellows.

With a background like this, turning to writing was no surprise. Aimee discovered Men-on-Men erotica early in life and has never looked back. After that first story, she devoured all the books she could find. And when she ran out, she decided to write her own. Aimee Brissay has over 10 stories published, varying from contemporary to fantasy and BDSM, men-on-men, men-on-men-on-men or on-women, and anything in between.

She can write anywhere, even in a crowded room or a busy subway station, but she loves solitude. When she’s not at her evil day job or she’s not torturing her characters in her latest WIP, she can be found writing or playing with her cats. Or her newly adopted dog, because 5 cats are just not enough.

She welcomes messages from readers and promises to answer all of them as soon as possible, though that can mean anything from one hour to a month.

Destined to Fall by Louisa Mae - Review

Cover design by Jay Aheer - Simply Defined Art

There are parts of our lives which are predestined, and no matter how hard we try, we can’t change what will happen — what must happen. Andrew Manners understood that better than most, but it didn’t change how he felt about his past or his desire to change it.

Even angels have regrets, and after living two mortal lifetimes in his angelic form, and with countless other years ahead, he would give it all up to be with the man he’d loved and lost for just one short lifetime together.

“Everything has a price. Every journey has an end.”

The price Andrew paid when his journey ended was immortality. A gift, some would say. A curse, others would whisper.

He’s walked the earth for almost one hundred years, putting aside all selfish needs while caring and offering comfort to others. When he finds a dying man on the streets of London, he’s unprepared for how it will change his life.

“I never knew how my life could change in such a short space of time, or how one decision would affect the outcome in such a monumental way.”

Josh is inconsolable after losing his partner, and as Andrew guides the grief stricken man through his pain, he’s forced to recall his own mortal life and the lover he left behind. Looking back allows him to see what he could find with Josh, but such a strong bond shouldn’t exist between a mortal and an angel, and Andrew struggles with the demands of his angelic duties and what his heart needs.

“I found out it was possible to love, and be loved in return, only to face losing it all.”

Knowing a relationship can only bring them both heartache, and unable to explain his angelic form, Andrew believes he will spend an eternity mourning what could have been.

“The true measure of love is what you’re willing to give up for it.”

With the terrifying prospect of living forever without the man he loves weighing heavily on his soul, Andrew seeks out a different path, one which could lead him into the hands of the demonic creatures which now hide in the shadows around him, or lead him into the arms of his soulmate. The risks are great. Andrew’s very soul is in danger. But what good is a soul without its mate?

Falling in love was easy. Falling for love would be the hard part.

This story had me hooked from the start, the premise of angels existing in the human realm something that has always held a fascination. Add to that the promise of love between two beautiful men and there was no way I was going to put this book down.

When we meet Andrew Manners, we discover he's an angel, charged to help mortals when the need arises. When he comes upon a scene of utter devastation, comforting a man named Josh during the loss of his partner, his fate is changed irrecoverably. This task is not new to Andrew, for as an angel it is part of who he is to help those in his charge, but never has the pull to a mortal been stronger.

While being there for Josh in his time of need, Andrew's story is also revealed, the emotions he feels about losing the one man he loved when in the prime of his mortal life overwhelming. The guilt is there as well as a strong sense of loss and longing - one Andrew can't seem to find a way around.

I wanted to hug Josh after seeing what he had gone through, Andrew the perfect balm for his battered soul. Yes these two were brought together by tragedy, but through these circumstances, they find something in one another that is essential for each of them to survive.

These two men tugged at my heartstrings big-time, the choices and sacrifices Andrew is forced to make potentially devastating, Josh's inability to function without Andrew obvious. I cried more than once for all they had endured. Smiled when they experienced happiness.

But this wasn't just about two men from entirely different worlds finding one another amongst the chaos and cruelty of fate.

It was also about hope.

Hope that after we are gone, we live on. That no matter what life throws at us, we can come out the other end stronger than ever before.

The author conveyed it all with skill, well rounded characters and the ability to put together a great tale.

Five stars for this emotional love story.

Born and bred in the the vibrant city of Leeds in the North of the UK. I’ve always loved reading, and one of my fondest memories from childhood was the weekly visits to the library with my beloved dad. It always seemed such a magical place to escape into through the books I read on a weekly basis.

I’d not really thought about writing in my adult life until I was introduced to the world of Fanfiction and after reading so many I found myself making friends through this new media. My friend, Lori, told me to have a go at writing one, and I did. That work took on a life of its own and opened my eyes to the possibilities. This allowed me to get used to plotting a story and while making the characters my own. I also started to beta/pre read for others and discovered, that much to my surprise, they valued my opinion and input.

Making the move to write M/M or slash as it’s known, took me a little longer. After becoming good friends with a wonderful lady from Illinois who told me (repeatedly), “You should write slash, I think you’d be good at it.” I shied away from the idea for so long, but the seed was firmly sown in my mind and soon took root and a life of its own. I decided to write a short piece as a surprise gift for Angela’s birthday that year. Emailing it to her, given the time difference between the UK and US this meant I was desperately waiting for her to see in and I think I heard her delighted scream. Thanks to this, and working on writing group competition, I soon found that I preferred writing M/M to M/F.

In 2013 fate intervened and I lost my job. Through my new one, I met Nicole Colville, and the rest, as they say, is history. This marked the start of a beautiful friendship. She encouraged me to make the switch to writing original fiction, and I signed up to Nano Wri Mo 2013, but due to changing jobs I couldn’t commit the time needed. In 2014 I signed up again, and smashed the 50K word goal in 30 days, with a story I love and am proud of.
I’ve been beta/pre reading for Nicole over 17 books now (including the 10 shorts in Knights) and the confidence she inspires in me has been invaluable in my joining this anthology and publishing my first work.
